To Know Herself was the culminating exhibition for California College of the Arts curatorial practices graduate Yomna Osman. This exhibition utilized the bar in CCA Wattis Institute’s event space featured work to feature artist Macon Reed’s installation Eulogy For The Dyke Bar (2015) and a commissioned performance installation Save the last dance for me (2019) by artist Tammy Rae Carland. Osman’s curatorial vision examines the impact and value of lesbian bars with paying homage to their vanishing in San Francisco (and across the nation). Her timely exhibition came at a moment when artists, such as Sadie Barnette, were also examining the loss of these generative spaces with hopeful reconstructions.

To Know Herself was curated by Yomna Osman, CCAs Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice Class of 2019, at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.
